Brian Micheal (Mike) Cameron passed away Thursday, March 26th due to complications from kidney failure and diabetes. If anyone has any pictures or stories of Mike, please send them to me and I'll add them to this page.

From Leon LeDoux: Mike was active in the Southwest Region of the Sports Car Club of America for 20 years. He was Secretary for the club and a SCCA licensed Timing & Scoring Chief when our club was able to host road race events at Chennault.

He enjoyed driving his Mazda RX-7 at events around the state. Coincidentally, I bought the RX-7 for my daughter who managed to do what Mike was careful not to do, crash it.

Years back Mike won an all-expense trip for two from Quaker Oats to the NASCAR Winston in Charlotte, NC. He asked me to go. We wore out our shoes looking at all the sites around the track and mingled within a few feet of famous drivers seen on television. The event was first class and we capped the weekend off by driving the rental car in an Autocross in the northern part of North Carolina.

From Mike Rogers:

I guess the most time I spent with Mike was when I went with him to the Solo Nationals at Chicago and co-drove his RX7. Neither of us was there to win anything, it was only the second time I had ever driven his car. He was there solely for the enjoyment of being around the other folks at the event. We were gone six or eight days, about 30 hours on the road driving up and back. That's why I sent the picture, I knew he enjoyed the trip. Mike was always there for the work parties to set up the track at Chaneault even though he knew he would never have the chance to race there. His contributions are part of what we will celebrate in our 50-year gathering this summer. I know he was sorry that circumstances kept him from continuing participation with Sowela Region over the last several years.
