The junior driver program is a perfect way to get our children involved with our sport and potentially recruit new members who wouldn't otherwise be involved. The program allows youngsters to learn driving skills and safety, responsibility, the value of making good grades (bad grades and NO racing!) and to enjoy the friendly competitive spirit of autocross.
How can you get your son or daughter involved, and what will it cost? Racing kars are like race cars, and a one or two year old chassis will cost much less than a new one and still be very competitive. You can check out the classified ads found on the links provided below. SCCA rules allow the junior karts to use either a 5hp Briggs and Stratton 4 cycle motor or a Yamaha KT-100 2 cycle with an intake and/or exhaust restrictor to yield about the same horsepower as the Briggs. The Briggs is cheaper in stock form. Blueprinted and dyno'd engines sell for $500 and up.
